Fire alarm systems are mainly used in larger, mostly public or commercial buildings. Similar to smoke alarms, they act as early warning systems and take on several tasks. Fire alarm systems should register fires as early as possible and - as soon as this has happened - warn everyone in the building of the impending danger. All fire protection functions must be started without delay (for example closing the smoke protection doors or evacuating the elevators). At the same time, the nearest fire brigade must be alerted as quickly as possible and informed about the development of the fire. Furthermore, the systems should always ensure that the fire fighters have optimal access to the building and can locate the starting point of the fire as quickly as possible.
